International Union of Socialist Youth adopts a resolution on Iran

The International Union of Socialist Youth’s Mediterranean Committee adopted a resolution on Iran (read below) in a meeting in Cyprus on the 29th of November, which was proposed by the Democratic Youth Union of Iranian Kurdistan. Last week the Socialist International’s Council meeting in Santo Domingo adopted a resolution on Iran which was proposed by our party.

Resolution on Iran
The International Union of Socialist Youth:
1. Expresses its concern regarding the political developments in Iran, the government in power in Iran is using violence in order to silence the voices of peaceful demonstrators that struggle for democracy.
2. IUSY condemns the growing violations of human rights in Iran and condemns every practice that is contrary to the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
3. IUSY demands that the rights of all ethnic, religious, and national groups in Iran are respected and protected, and in particular the Kurdish peoples rights due to the fact that the Islamic Republic have targeted the Kurdish people in particular and subjects them to systematic oppression during the past 30 years.
4. IUSY reaffirms its support, in accordance to the resolution that was adopted by IUSY’s 24th Congress in Santo Domingo, for a democratic and federal system of governance in Iran.
5. IUSY demands that all political prisoners and prisoners of conscience in Iran are freed and expresses its solidarity with all those who, in accordance with our values, struggle for democracy, progress and justice in Iran.
6. IUSY supports its member organization, the Democratic Youth Union of Iranian Kurdistan, in their struggle for the rights of their people, democracy, secularism and peace.
