Twenty Kurdish activists face prison sentences in Mehabad
According to information from the Kurdish city of Mehabad, twenty Kurdish activists face prison sentences due to their participation in the general strike that were staged to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the assassination of the Kurdish leader Dr. Abdul Rahman Ghassmlou, on the 13 of July 2009.
These twenty activists urged merchants close down their shops during the general strike to protest against the regime. And since the 13th of July over 150 individuals have been summoned for interrogations, and an unknown number of these individuals have been sentenced to pay fines or sentenced to short prison terms.
The twenty Kurdish activists are supposed to hand them selves in to the Iranian authorities tomorrow. The names of two of the activists are Tahir Feramerzi and Ahmed Berhri Serdebiri. Both of these two men were members of the editorial board of Mehabad Magazine.
