Iran claims that 11 thousand Kurdish teachers are members of the Basij
In a ceremony for teachers who are members of the Basij paramilitary force, one of the officials that chair the education board in Kurdistan claimed that over 11 thousand Kurdish teachers are members of the Basij.
This may very well be true, but it is not due to Kurdish teachers belief in the Islamic Republic or that they are members of the Basij of their own free will, Kurdish teacher, workers, students, artists and so on, are forced to join the Basij.
If Kurdish civilians don’t have a stamp in their identification card that they are members of the Basij or one of the other paramilitary forces that Iran has in Kurdistan, they will not get their salaries, they will have a harder time getting medical treatment and above all they will be harassed on a daily basis.
During the last two years Kurdish teachers have went on strike several times due to the bad teaching conditions.
