Head of Iran’s consulate in Iraqi Kurdistan makes a ridiculous statement

I usually refrain from writing about different statements that the officials of the Islamic Republic makes about the Kurdish people because they are often not worth giving any attention. But one recent statement that got my attention came from Azim Husseini, head of one of Iran’s two consulates in Iraqi Kurdistan.

In an interview with the with the Kurdish weekly Rudaw, Husseini claims that efforts by regional countries to solve the Kurdish issue in their respective countries could not be compared with the Islamic Republics efforts to solve the Kurdish conflict in Iran.

Husseini states that “we [the Islamic Republic] solved this issue 30 years ago” and he continues to claim that “Iran has always been on the forefront of solving all conflicts”. He continues to say, “If there is a place [in the world] were unity thrives between people with different dialects [Kurdish is only a dialect and not a language according to Iran] that place is Iran.”

Husseinis statement is not unusual to come from an Iranian official, but what is more strange is that he made the statement in Iraqi Kurdistan at a time when Kurdish students and human rights activists in Iraqi Kurdistan are protesting against Iran’s execution of Kurdish activists and its oppression of the Kurdish people in Iranian Kurdistan.

The mere fact that Iranian officials are so bold that they dear to make statements like this in another part of Kurdistan only shows that the regime is worried about the solidarity that Kurds on different parts of Kurdistan express towards the struggle of their fellow Kurds in other parts of Kurdistan.

The regime is under pressure both from within its own ranks and from the people of Iran, and especially the Kurdish people of Iranian Kurdistan. They act more desperate and it is becoming more and more clear that this regime is worried that its rule is could come to an end.
