Diplomats or spies?
According to a report released by the Swedish Security Service (Säpo), a spy posing as a diplomat has been deported after that Säpo discovered that he had spied on refugees in Sweden.
Säpo do not mention the country involved, but the spy has gathered information on opposition groups by recruiting people who had information about the groups, Swedish radio reports.
Furthermore, the report states that the Spy managed to recruit people by threatening their families with torture and imprisonment in their homeland.
Swedish media has focused on Iran due to the fact that agents of the Iranian intelligence service Ettela’at have in the past posed as diplomats. In 2007 American forces arrested Iranian agents that were posing as diplomats in Iraqi Kurdistan.
In the 1990s Iranian agents assassinated a PDKI member, Karim Mohamedzadeh, in the Swedish town of Nynäshamn. Another PDKI member, Kamran Hidayeti, was seriously injured by a letter bomb that the Ettela’at had sent to him in Sweden. Furthermore, a former female member of the PDKI, Faoza Qazi, was killed in Sweden by another letter bomb that the Iranian intelligence service had sent to her.
